From Our President
Thanks for visiting the Voices of Gotham website. What an exciting whirlwind of a first year we have recently completed. Born in January of 2008, the Voices of Gotham was the brainchild of a small handful of busy professionals who longed for a chorus whose in-rehearsal commitment was minimal but whose member's skills and expectations are high.
Since that cold January night we have competed in Divisional Competition and District Competition, scoring just a few points shy of qualifying for this year's International Competition in Anaheim. An unprecedented start for a fledgling chorus. The well deserved buzz that this has generated has brought on board some outstandingly talented new members and we continue to enlist the talents of those who feel compelled to come and join us in creating an International caliber sound.
In addition to competition, VoG threw an entertaining and rousing party at Bar 13 in August and produced our first annual show in November. Combining the sounds of barbershop harmonies, 50's do wop style, and traditional a cappella, the 1 st annual show was a resounding crowd-pleaser.
VoG is also committed to doing community service work. We have teamed up with the Junior League of New York to provide entertainment to assisted living centers throughout the city. This January, VoG also sponsored the Youth in Harmony Festival in Manhattan since we believe that youth is vital to the continued existence and cultivation of barbershop harmony.
I invite you to take a moment to peruse this site and see for yourself all of the exciting things that VoG is involved with and in. Should you be interested in possibly becoming a member, feel free to check the calendar section and drop in on our next rehearsal. Guests are always welcome. And, most importantly, the continued work of Non Profit organizations such as the Voices of Gotham depends largely on the generosity of those who enjoy the art that we provide, so if you are unable to sing with us perhaps you will support us by making a tax-deductible donation.
Thank you and in harmony we unite.
