Competition Circuit
As a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), a 25,000 member organization dedicated to the perpetuation and celebration of harmony in the barbershop style, Voices of Gotham participates in the BHS Competition Circuit under its Quartet and Chorus Contest & Judging System. As part of the system's qualifying rules, VoG participates in two to three contests during the calendar year:
BHS Mid-Atlantic District Convention
VoG and its quartets compete against fellow BHS member choruses and quartets during the BHS Mid-Atlantic District (MAD) Convention each fall. Depending upon qualification standing, VoG may compete in multiple contests in a given year.BHS International Convention
If Voices of Gotham's score at the Mid-Atlantic District Convention allows the chorus to qualify, the chorus will participate in the chorus competition at the annual BHS International Convention, held during the first week of July every year. Additionally, VoG affiliated quartets can participate in the quartet and collegiate quartet contests. During convention week, members can participate in master classes, business workshops, contests, and performances with more than 10,000 BHS members from all over the world.
Voices of Gotham members who are interested in participating in the contests are responsible for paying their own travel, lodging, and contest registration fees. VoG has a scholarship program available for active members who would not otherwise be able to participate. If you are an active member and are interested in applying for financial assistance, please contact someone directly in leadership.
